This year’s RAW Film Festival has officially wrapped, and we are proud to reflect on the heartbeat that guided it — WHAT BIRTH DEMANDS.

The theme honoured storytellers who push through personal and societal barriers to bring bold, authentic, and transformative stories to life. It recognized that creativity is not effortless — it requires resilience, sacrifice, courage, and the willingness to break and rebuild. For African filmmakers, this was also a reclamation of our ancient tradition of storytelling — an insistence that our narratives are worthy, powerful, and sovereign.

From 26–31 October 2025, filmmakers, audiences, and cultural workers from Khayelitsha and beyond came together for a week of film screenings, workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. Both emerging and established voices shared space, knowledge, and artistic vision.

RAW Film Festival continues its mission to:

• Celebrate filmmakers from Khayelitsha and across Africa

• Expand access to arts and cultural participation

• Create networking and employment pathways

• Support the growth of new talent through mentorship and training
